Liberty Mutual Interactive Fire Safety Site

An amazing achievement would be to reach 100% of the public with fire safety messages. Unfortunately, we can’t always reach everyone all the time. Thanks to Internet, there are places that families can go to get fire safety education even when we can’t reach them.

One such place is the Liberty Mutual Be FireSmart site. An interactive experience that has many offerings for parents and children. There are a few downloads and games.

Key Findings From The Site:

Despite 90 percent of Americans expressing a basic understanding of the importance fire safety measures (smoke alarms, fire extinguisher, fire escape plan), there remains alarming high numbers who do not put these practices into place:

  • 7 million Americans do not own a smoke alarm
  • 37 million Americans do not own a fire extinguisher
  • 50 million Americans do not have a fire escape plan(Source: Liberty Mutual)

Of course, I prefer the real life interaction and learning that takes place when presenting an educational program to the public. However, we must seize opportunities like these from our partners in industry. One way you might do that is to provide a link to the Be FireSmart web site from your own department site. It won’t replace the value of your own content, but it will add reinforcement from an outside source.
