Arson Awareness Week Materials - Updated

Last month, Fire Educator featured a free PSA developed by The Idea Bank  for Arson Awareness Week.

The United States Fire Administration has upped the ante with a free media kit and other resources for your Arson Awareness Week Campaign including a poster.

The USFA web site also gives examples of the kinds of injuries that have been caused by novelty lighters.  Not only have the lighters caused injuries, but so have other objects mistaken for the lighters.

For example: “In 2006, a South Carolina woman shot herself in the hand while attempting to light a cigarette with what she thought was a pistol-shaped novelty lighter.” (USFA)

Other resources include sample legislation from state and local governments that have been successful in in banning the sales of novelty lighters.

To learn more about the resources, visit the USFA Arson Awareness Week web site.
