Fire Death Prompts Call For Awareness

A Mid Columbia Tri-City Herald story featured on ResidentialFireSprinklers.com reports that the death of an 83 year old woman has prompted Richmond, WA, officials to promote some key fire safety behaviors.
According to Fire Chief Grant Baynes, “Everything was done that could be done … This was just a tragedy that she got caught in this fire.” She was in the bathroom, which is just across the hall from the bedroom. The chief said she was likely trying to leave and just collapsed in the bathroom.
The article continues on to cover basic fire safety information. I think this is an important example of how to tie the appropriate safety messages to a tragic event in order to reinforce their content.
