Injury Prevention Activities for Kids - A Mom’s Perspective

Michelle over at Riding the Baby Roller Coaster posted her thoughts and experiences on helping to teach her children safety and injury prevention.
Out of her own experience of having her 8 month old baby take a tumble down the stairs after a sibling left the gate open, Michelle decided that it was time to get the whole family involved in everyone’s safety.
‘I’ve recently found that one of the best ways to create injury prevention activities for kids is to include the whole family. When my baby was about 8 months old, his older brother left the gate open on the stairs. The baby went flying and managed, somehow, to stay in tact down 15 marble stairs. After that incident, I decided that safety was a family affair. It’s everyone’s responsibility in this house to keep the kids safe.”
I think that her concept is an interesting one because she puts the responsibility for safety on the whole family. It reminds of the “safety is in your hands” or “safety begins with you” slogans.Â
