Old Fire Engine Helps Promote Safety

Here’s a novel approach to utilizing resources and getting equipment to help promote your safety programs.
The Mentor (OH) Fire Department was in the process of taking one of their old fire engines out of service when they came up with a great idea.  Why not use the old engine as part of their public education and safety programs? Why not exactly?
“Phillip the Fire Truck is the star of the Mentor Safety Village, a comprehensive and realistic town filled with safety information, interactive lessons and real-life safety vehicles.”
How many times has your department disposed of something that might have been repurposed for another use? What if that use could have been YOUR public education program?
With that in mind, what do you have around the station that you could use? Better yet, what have you repurposed for your own program?
